Working with a CLT
Initial Session & Evaluation
Your first session is an integral part of establishing care for your lymphedema. Bailey will discuss your medical history, swelling, and any lifestyle factors. Detailed measurements may be taken, and a treatment plan will be created. From there, she’ll go over the process and timeline for your specific case, as well as expectations.
If your care involves Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT), you’ll be provided a list of any supplies and other requirements necessary to begin treatment. If you do not need CDT or have previously completed CDT, Bailey will discuss your maintenance options. Typically, maintenance is done once every 2-4 weeks.
You will also be taught MLD exercises to perform at home. Self MLD is an important part is managing swelling between appointments.
Length: 75-90 minutes
Cost: $185
*If you have been previously fitted for compression garments, please bring them to your appointment. If you do not have compression garments, please do not buy compression garments until meeting with Bailey.
Lymphedema MLD
Once you have successfully completed CDT, you graduate to Phase II, or “Maintenance Phase.” This requires less frequent in-person visits, but daily home care is expected to manage lymphedema. Clients who are 100% compliant often see further reduction in swelling.
While most patients find monthly MLD sessions beneficial, with compliant home care, appointments can be scheduled every three to six months, unless you notice a return in swelling. If you see an increase in swelling (2 cm), call us to schedule an appointment immediately. It is easier to stop swelling in the early stages before it progresses.
If you are working with a CLT at a lymphedema clinic and seeing them every three months, we do provide support between those visits.
Length: 60 minutes
Cost: $145
Lymphedema CDT
Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) is the Gold Standard for Lymphedema care involving: Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), skin care, and compression. Our goal is to reduce swelling so you can get to the point of being able to manage lymphedema at home. This requires both in-person visits and diligent home care.
CDT is typically 2-4 weeks long for upper extremity involvement and 4-6 weeks for lower extremity involvement when the client comes 3-5 times a week.
In order to begin CDT sessions, clients must have all supplies purchased. Once you have your supplies, we will schedule your appointments.
If you develop cellulitis, we stop all appointments and home care until cleared by your doctor to resume. This is to help prevent the infection from spreading.
Length: 60 minutes
